Sep 6: My quest for a modem that does BT Caller ID
I got this back from Dynamode:
It was in reference to one of their USB modems (the M56EXT-USB):
If anyone does know of one (preferably USB or PCMCIA cardbus) that does caller display, then please drop me a line. I've got a lovely little Java app I've written to grab the data - I just need the modem, now!
We have tested this with the settings provided by chipset manufacturer
Caller ID in the UK is apparently different from any other worldwide and
unfortunately no matter which settings we used the Caller ID was not
displayed even though we used the initialization string that was
requested AT#CID=1

Dynamode,
I'm wondering whether you know if your M56EXT-USB offers calling line ID
for the UK? Have your users had any success? Normally this would be
indicated by AT+VCID being in the command set for the modem.
I will buy several if you can confirm this. I'm happy to assist you in
testing this functionality should you wish to make doubly sure...
Many thanks for your time and effort.
J.

Sep 1: The Prague Manifesto: The purpose of Esperanto
Surfing the interreto today, I came across (for the first time in a long time), a copy of the Prague Manifesto, which I had all but forgotten about, but it neatly encapsulates the goals of the Esperanto community. And you can't really argue about the validity of those goals, especially when the exact opposite appears to be happening, these days. Have a read (it's not very long).
