May 9: Still pushing Melanie's fundraising
May 3: A normal ringtone at last
Nokia, with all their technical capability, seems to have totally eschewed the concept of a normal ringtone. You know, one that sounds like you work for an exclusive agency just behind Bond Street. I am consequently indebted to Peter for his excellent tone.
May 3: Kalorie footage at long last
It is with joy that I announce the first Kalorie (London incarnation) promotional video! Please do take a look and meet the band. I must declare my interests at this point - Clare on lead guitar is my girlfriend. They're a great band though, and are doing very well in the London rock scene. Check their Myspace for details of the gigs.
Couldn't help but notice that some of my photos made it in. Hope I'm in the credits...
Jul 22: JDV Pro, Article II: Sensible personality tests
Anyone who's had an e-mail address for any length of time will know that there are people out there that love to send around personality tests. There's nothing much wrong about these, but they don't even pretend to be anything but fun, and have very little practical application as far as personal development is concerned. The acceptions are probably the Jung Myers Briggs tests I've looked at before, and others where the questions and evalutions of the answers given produce empirically valuable assessments. The Brainbench site seems to offer quite a comprehensive one. I have included the full text of my report after the jump, not because of of any vain belief that you're even slightly interested, but because (if you know me, at least), you can decide whether you think it is accurate. Empowered with that knowledge, you may choose to go on and take such tests yourself. I happen to think this sums me up pretty accurately, although I was expecting a higher "abstraction" mark than I got! I also think the Introvertion score is more accurate than I've had from JMB tests I've tried.

Here's a quotation from the The London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, which states proudly that it is, "Helping you to make a difference as a Christian in today's world". A noble concern if ever there was one. Christians should always, I think, have in mind ways that they can further the Kingdom in Jesus' name through what they do:
Capitalism is the dominant global ideology. As such it is vital that the Church develops a robust theological response. This will need to appreciate both the self-evident benefits of vigorous wealth-creation and the need to create structures and controls that lead to relational and social health as well as justice and opportunity for the poor. We have secured funds for 60%, across four years, for a post-doctoral research and resource project.
What follows is the introductory paragraph to the specification and outline of the project.

Apr 19: Kohera in the news
Sadly, I don't mean in reference to my company. Rather, the name Kohera crops up in funny places. All I had in mind when I chose it was its Esperanto meaning, which is "coherent", although I have a Google Alert on the name, which seems to be held by some interesting people. Take this article about Malawi children and the visit that had from Bush. There's a quote from a certain kid:
“I am happy I have seen the President,” said nine year-old Kohera Chalulu

Mar 7: New Series: "JDV pro". Article I: Chiropractic
Hello!
In order to encourage me to write, I'm going to start a little series of articles. This one is called "JDV pro". It will give you an idea things I'm in favour of. I'm not going write pages and pages, and I'm not going to be very specific about what I select. It will depend on what's happened during the day or the week. First up? Chiropratic.
I must say I was a chiropractic sceptic, but since "doing my back in" a few months ago, this sophisicated treatment has made life bearable again.
Today, for example, I woke up unfocussed and dull-feeling. I often have no energy in the mornings, so this was of no great surprise, although I did feel iller than usual. I had my monthly chiro booked for 1030, so I drove in and got stuck in traffic in Henley, making me late. Lucky for me, these people are very flexible, and as the appointments tend to be between 15 and 30 minutes, someone else can always jump in first.
All I tend to need to remove in the way of clothing is my belt. These days, as Brian Bourne knows his way about my crippled frame, shirts and shoes are no major object to success on the platform I spend a lot of time face down apon during my appointment.
I always explain what difficulties I've been having during the week, as chiro is a very holistic approach to human health, and he can usually find answers to my dificulties. I told him about my lack of motivation and he went for my neck, literally, citing the possibility that the bloodflow was being reduced to my brain. One thing you realise when undergoing a course of chiropractic is that the most dire things are happening to everyone, every day. If we don't care for our spinal health, there are many nasty things that can happen that are not evident from acute back pain. In fact, that can be one of the last symtoms before serious harm is done. Now on to the treatment itself.
